Package installation error (hr=1)

Post by steve de costa »

I have a problem with updating packages in MikeTeX. I'm using Windows 7. Every time I try to install a package using the MikeTex Package manager, I get the following error.

I've tried the package update manager even as an administrator, but it still doesn't work. :?

Any ideas why this would happen.

I'm guessing its a result of this that whenever I try to compile any LateX file in WinEdt, I get the error following error of some missing package.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Thanks

Is the problem that simple that no one has bothered answering?

Or is it too complicated to answer?

Unfortunately, I tried googling as well but did not get any effective results.

Can anyone please help me with this? Appreciate your help.

Regards

I had this problem a few weeks ago, but it seemed to go away after a while. Hopefully it does for you, but I don't understand it at all.

Usually this is due to corrupt files at the server end. So the problem tends to disappear after a few days when the servers get updated. Patient tends to be the best approach.

Really... GO away with time....??? Is that it? Is there another plausible explanation? It hasn't gone away in 3 weeks for me.

Can anyone recommend any specific mirror I should be using when downloading packages....One that works for you...?

I'm wondering if I can use something like TexMaker with WinEdt instead of MikeTeX?

Are you always using the same server to download from? Might be an issue with that server alone.

The editor you use does not get you out of needing a TeX distribution. Your option other than MiKTeX is to use TeX Live 2009 (http://www.tug.org/texlive), which should work just as well.

Hey,

I think it was an issue with the server. I just changed the mirror to another location and now it works fine.

Thanks a lot for the simple and effective suggestion :D
