Really curious or you think I'm completely off my trolley?
It will look fine because there is a basic design (a small circle of asterisks) and only small variations... I wasn't planning to use 1001 random images
At the moment there's a placeholder because, as though I were tweening between an initial and a final frame, I can't actually generate the images until I know how many pages there are in each chapter... .

Re: Memoir class & part numbering
The lecture notes for m maths course this semester had a small plot of a solution to the wave equation on each page, and when you thumbed through the book it became like an animated picture, very cool, hope it works out nicely for you

Re: Memoir class & part numbering
btw: is there a special series of images for each part?
because otherwise one could simply use \thesequence as the numbering.

Yes there is a special series of images for each part. More than that I cannot say
Now if I could only recover the missing \footskip (Unanswered Page Layout query here)... the layout would be complete.
